Our vision is to educate parents on the latest legislation in Florida in regard to Public Schools and to help activate them with the goal of reversing harmful legislation that is against children’s right.

We want to support parents, teachers, and school districts as they navigate the latest laws that may hinder their ability to remain student-centric. We also want to bring to light the harm being done by “Mom’s” whose focus is on a “Parent’s Rights” movement, and not considering the rights of the children they speak of.

Who are We?

Lissette and Vanessa met at a local Club meeting. Both talking extensively on the latest legislation, they decided they couldn’t just sit around and were moved to action.

Mom’s for Libros came about after realizing the Miami Dade County School Board would have an item at the latest school board meeting discussing how they would handle book challenges. Moved to action, Lissette and Vanessa formed Mom’s for Libros and got in contact with activists, teachers, and moms across Miami to motivate them to speak up at the school board meeting against the banning of books and for more transparency in the process.

Lissette Fernandez is a mom of two elementary-aged children who attend public schools and has been motivated to action by the bad bills passed in Florida causing harm to her children’s education and their future. Lissette is also a graduate of FIU with degrees in Liberal Studies and Women’s Studies who has considered returning for her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy and non-profits.

Vanessa Brito knows how to navigate Miami-Dade politics and policy, as a public policy consultant and lifelong activist dedicated to creating strategic management strategies for public entities, non-profits, and political candidates. Also a graduate of FIU with a degree in Political Science.

Both women are lifelong Miamians and want nothing more than to leave Miami a better place for future generations.
